As people are facing more and more pressure in modern society, returning to nature has become a dream for many.
Nature also became a theme of the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show 2004, which closed on Friday.
Leaves, flowers, animals and other wonders of nature inspired the designers who put together this year's creations.
Designer Lee Sang Mee, a winner of major jewellery design awards in the Republic of Korea (ROK), is constantly inspired by nature's beauty and harmony.
His collection, called "Angevin," offered jewellery ranging from brooches, rings, earrings and necklaces to hair clips in 18k white, black, pink and yellow gold, platinum, natural colour stones and diamonds.
For his collection, he used all of his talent to design these splendid pieces set with little colourful stones.
Lee also achieved an unmistakable art nouveau style, with wavy lines expressed in many different tones and a saturation of all different colours. The whole reflects a cultural fusion of the best of Eastern and Western art and couture.
One of the main attractions at the show, the Designer Jewellery Galleria, paraded the talents of international designers and famous brands. The showcase, which included glittering pieces by designers from France, the United States, Israel, Japan, Thailand, and China's Taiwan and Hong Kong, provided a one-stop-review of a truly remarkable collection.
The Hong Kong brand Baerjewels was established in 1988 to cater to the discerning indivial who appreciates chic, contemporary and unique designs.
Award-winning designer Peter Baer draws inspiration from a variety of sources such as nature, landscapes, fashion and architecture to enhance the wearer's personal style and image.
The resulting combination of his Swiss design roots and extensive Asian experiences are reflected in striking pieces that often feature one of his favourite materials - jade.
Distinctive Baerjewels are frequently enhanced with a one-of-a-kind centrepiece such as a carved jade stone or baroque-shaped pearl. Colourful stones feature prominently in daring combinations of colours and shapes, designed to dazzle and delight.
Fellow Hong Kong designer Dickson Yewn draws inspiration from Eastern philosophy and mysticism, and the spirit and influence behind his creations often stem from the Taoist philosophy of nature.
Yewn, 34, divided years of undergraate fine arts and business studies between Paris and Ottawa. In New York, he continued his studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology in photography and design.
His fine jewellry creations, with names like Circle of Life, Square of Earth, Bodhi Tree and Lattice, are incredibly elegant statements that describe and embrace the fundamental concepts of humanity's place in the Universe.
"Nature is felt through the earth, and urges us to love; love is felt in the heart, which urges to be and treat everything kindly," said Japanese designer Hisako Shiraishi. "So it is in stunning jewellry creations."
Crafted with immense care, with great attention to detail and incorporating the subtleties of the meadow, flower, trees and rivers, Shiraishi provides jewellery lovers with endless opportunities to play as nature intended.
The French brand Isabelle Langlois is the epitome of poetry in jewellery that is at once trendy, yet elegant, and exciting yet tasteful. Natural themes involving butterflies and bees, striking colours, exquisite diamonds and enthralling colour stones appear in an array of rings, earrings, pendants, brooches, bracelets and necklaces.
Having created tailor-made luxurious jewellry since 1980, Hong Kong designer John Chan now put the focus on something really special, "Wild Life: the Elegance," a superior range featuring diamonds and precious stone brooches in the form of animals like cougars and birds.
Then there were the gold cuffs that featured rampant elephants and cheeky monkeys with ruby eyes.
At the heart of ROK designer Lee's works were perfect ideals regarding the pursuit of naturalism in jewellery design.
In an increasingly instrialized world, Lee believes people yearn for closeness to more natural shapes and forms, colours and materials.
"To ease the hard approach of technology, we need the warmth and protective web of natural simplicity and consistency," the designer said.
By harmonizing dynamic flow and geometry, Lee's designs manage to evoke feelings of peace and maternal love, or create moods such as the gentle curves of rivers or the aged crags of mountains.
All of these themes are available in hairpins, brooches, rings, earrings, pendants and bracelets, for true connoisseurs of inspired jewellry.
Designer Pei-San Hsieh from Taiwan said she originated from nature, and could learn more from nature. So she skillfully manipulated the unique character, texture and colours of precious stones and transformed them into natural landscapes, flowers and herbs in a totally abstract style.
She found inspiration in landscapes, and the flexibility of jade, coral, pearls and diamonds. The designer proced pendants, necklaces, earrings, rings, brooches and bracelets that piqued people's imaginations about natural beauty.

A dream is to a man what wings are to a bird. With a dream in the deep heart's core, a man is spontaneously driven to hitch his wagon to a star. A dream is an inexhaustible source of energy that keeps our enthusiasm burning, and kindles our desire to enhance our spiritual cultivation, refine our character, and upgrade our quality of life. A life without a dream is like a bird with broken wings, confined to a cage and oblivious of what lies beyond the range of its vision. On the contrary, a man with a dream is like a warrior armed with ambition, foresight and gallantry, daring to step into an unknown domain to make a journey of adventure. It is dream that adds fullness, variety, and spice to our life and makes it worth living.
I have a dream. It is d dream that is deeply rooted in human nature. I dream that one day people of all origins can live in harmony and peace without being discriminated against or persecuted. The bounty of the earth can be shared by every single human being. Mutual respect will guarantee the existence and continuation of the diversity of customs and cultures. Everyone has a dream. I often ask myself. When I was a little boy, I wanted to be a soldier with a gun so that I could defend our motherland.Now I am a young boy with a new dream——to be a doctor. I want to be a famous doctor, helping the sick and saving their lives.
